A folder-type light emitting display and a driving method thereof are provided to turn on or off a power source of the light emitting display according to data generated by detecting the natural light, without a mechanical switch. A folder-type light emitting display includes an upper folder having an image display device(110) displaying an image; a lower folder connected with the upper folder by hinge; a light sensing unit(200) for outputting a control signal according to the light intensity by detecting the light as the upper and lower folders are opened or closed; a control unit for controlling the ratio between emission time and non-emission time of the image display device correspondingly to the control signal; a power unit(300) outputting power for driving the image display device; and a switching unit cutting off the output of the power unit if the control signal is over a predetermined value.
