A method for alarming battery life is provided to enable a user to correctly determine a battery replacement time in diverse types of portable terminals by accumulating/counting battery use time when power is turned on, and outputting an alarm message or sound in case that the accumulated battery use time exceeds the battery life. In the case that the power of the portable terminal using a battery is turned on, the battery use time is accumulated/counted and the accumulated battery use time is compared with the battery life(S14). In the case that the battery use time exceeds the battery life, the alarm message or sound is output(S15). When the power is turned off, the battery life is stored to a non-volatile memory by linking with a unique battery ID(S17).
