A driving control apparatus for a reciprocating compressor is provided to automatically perform variable displacement operations depending on load condition with reference to a stroke when a discharge valve is opened. A driving control apparatus for a reciprocating compressor includes a stroke estimator, a damping coefficient calculation part(100), a damping coefficient inflection point detection part(200), and a stroke order conversion part(300). The stroke estimator estimates a stroke by using a motor voltage and a motor current. The damping coefficient calculation part detects a phase difference between the stroke estimation value and the current to calculate a damping coefficient. The damping coefficient inflection point detection part detects an inflection point of the damping coefficient. The stroke order conversion part analyzes the damping coefficient inflection point detection signal to vary a stroke order value.
