The acoustic pick-up has a hydrophone with a unit for establishing an ultrasound wave field and a unit for measuring an intersticial velocity inside the field in different directions. The field is exposed to acoustic radiations from a submarine source that modulates the ultrasound wave field such that the modulated intersticial velocity provides an indication on a direction of the source with respect to the pick-up.
