PHOTOCATALYST PARTICLE, COATING MATERIAL CONTAINING THE PHOTOCATALYST PARTICLE, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE PHOTOCATALYST PARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst particle which exhibits satisfactory photocatalytic activity even at a place like in the room where there is a small dose of ultraviolet rays, by which formaldehyde, a bad-smelling component of a cigarette or the like can be decomposed effectively and which has such a spherical shape and uniform particle size that the photocatalyst particle can be mixed in coating material or the like and used easily.

SOLUTION: The photocatalyst particle is produced by oxidizing the surface of a titanium oxide particle by silicotungstic acid to form a surface layer or by forming a porous surface layer containing tungsten oxide and silicon oxide on the surface of the titanium oxide particle.
