摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for simulating an optical amplification characteristic of an optical amplifier under an arbitrary condition with a high accuracy, by constructing a computational model of high versatility based on a physical phenomenon for gain fluctuation due to a gain spectral hole burning phenomenon (GSHB). <P>SOLUTION: This device for simulating the optical amplification characteristic calculates a gain wavelength characteristic of an amplification medium according to a pre-set calculation formula by using spectrum of a signal light input in the optical amplifier and a characteristic parameter of the amplification medium, etc. The calculation formula has a parameter corresponding to the gain fluctuation due to the GSHB, and the parameter is, based on increase of the occupying number of electrons of each Stark level on a final level side, defined by a function modeling a physical phenomenon that decrease of population inversion ratio is caused due to the GSHB. By finding output power of the signal light based on the calculated gain wavelength characteristic, the optical amplification property of the optical amplifier is simulated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
