<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which a correction with higher accuracy to a color balance by increasing the number of patches makes it impossible to form all patches on one sheet of transfer paper. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus forms at least one line of patches disposed with no spaces between patches (S102). The area of each of the line of patches thus formed is discriminated to detect the density or chromaticity of each patch (S103).
