PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for measurement in regard to a light-wave distance meter equipped with an autocollimator. SOLUTION: This light-wave distance meter includes a range-finding light source 20 for outputting range-finding light L toward a target 25 placed an observation point, a light receiving element 28 for receiving the range-finding light reflected/returned by the target to convert the light into a range-finding signal M, a CPU 54 for operating a distance from the range-finding signal, a shutter 34 for switching between an external optical path along which the range-finding light goes to the target and returns or an internal optical path along which the range-finding light from the light source gets to the receiving element, and the autocollimator for automatically collimating the target. This distance meter alternates measurement by means of range-finding light going through the external optical path and measurement by means of reference light R going through the internal optical path.
