PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To move a presser foot member at a position of an optional height according to its manipulated variable, to move the presser foot member at a speed according to the operation speed of an operation body, and to instruct starting of sewing easily. SOLUTION: When a step pedal is stepped from a neutral area to an operation area, detected voltages A and B of a potentiometer for a portion of twice are read every prescribed minute time to obtain the effective stepping amount of the step pedal (S11 to S13). Next, a target height position of lowering a presser foot member according to the obtained stepping amount and a lowering speed according to the stepping speed of the step pedal are calculated (S18), and a presser foot motor is driven directly to the position of the target height at the obtained lowering speed (S1 to S9).
