PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve printing quality by suppressing reduction in the speed of ejected ink droplets by reducing the maximum value of pressure amplitudes in pressure chambers of a group which is not in the ink ejection timing. SOLUTION: An ink jet head varies the volume of a pressure chamber which ejects ink by deforming and driving actuators between the pressure chamber which ejects ink and two pressure chambers adjacent to the pressure chamber in accordance with drive signals. In the ink jet head, when five-divided drive is to be performed, drive signals which evenly disperse the pressure vibrations of the adjacent pressure chambers 9b and 9d generated along with the ink ejection operation of the pressure chamber 9c, which is to eject the ink, to the pressure chambers 9a, 9b, 9d, and 9e, which do not eject the ink, are applied to electrodes of pressure chambers 9a, 9b, 9d, 9e, and 9f.
