The end position damper for a hydraulic cylinder (10), with a piston (14) movable within a cylinder liner (12), has a plate (18) which is movably installed on the piston in such a way that it is in advance of the piston movement, and when lying against the bottom of the cylinder at least partially covers the drain openings (26,28). The movable plate is held in a position in advance of the piston by means of a spring (20) or by hydraulic pressure.
