<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recognition device and an image recognition method, capable of rapidly performing image recognition processing while improving recognition accuracy by using map data showing the position of a recognition object. <P>SOLUTION: The recognition object to be imaged by a camera is predicted based on map information recording the position of the recognition object and position information of the camera (S14), a search frame for displaying the recognition object within an image taken by the camera is set (S22), and image recognition of the recognition object is performed with respect to the search frame (S26).
