<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a seat belt retractor in a still smaller size while such an arrangement is introduced that the limit load acting on a seat belt can be set differently with a still wider flexibility according to the situation at the time of emergency. <P>SOLUTION: Coaxially with a spool 4, the second EA mechanism 41 is installed in a supporting shaft part 4a of the spool 4. In case of emergency, a clutch pawl 46 is engaged with a detent pawl 43a on a first energy absorber supporting member 43, which thereby rotates in the belt drawout direction together with the spool 4. On the other hand, a second energy absorber supporting member 44 is locked from rotating by a lever 50 of an actuation controlling member 48. This causes an energy absorber 2 to make deformation, and the second EA mechanism 41 absorbs the impact energy together with a torsion bar 7. When the lever 50 is actuated to disengage the rotational lock of the second energy absorber supporting member 44, the energy absorbing operation of the second EA mechanism 41 is ended. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
