<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device capable of performing predetermined controls on the conditions that the opening and closing body is set at or near the fully closed position and less causing erroneous operations resulting from effects such as reaction caused when the opening and closing body is fully closed by a simple structure less causing troubles and defective operations and providing high productivity. <P>SOLUTION: This opening and closing device comprises an encoder device 35 outputting count values in conjunction with the opening and closing operations of the opening and closing body 10, a memory part 41 storing variations of information on the position of the opening and closing body which is information on the position of the opening and closing body, and an adding and deducting means adding and deducting the count values to and from the variables of the information on the position of the opening and closing body. The position of the opening and closing body is recognized by using the variables of the information on the position of the opening and closing body stored in the memory part 41, and a comparison value area for determining that the opening and closing body 10 is set at or near the roughly fully closed position is set beforehand.
