PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly reduce the sound when a motor rotates inertially and prevent the overheat of the motor. SOLUTION: When the electric motor 3 rotates inertially (the judgement in step S5 is "Yes") after the wheel drive by the electric motor 3 is stopped once and besides the transmission of motive power is interrupted by an electromagnetic clutch 11 (the judgment in step S1 is "Yes"), this controller brakes the electric motor 3 by the three-phase short circuit by an inverter 9 (step S10). Then, it computes the quantityΔN (=N<SB>0</SB>-Nm) of the decrease of the number Nm of revolutions of the motor after start of motor braking, and when the quantityΔN of this decrease amounts to a specified valueΔN<SB>1</SB>or over (the judgment in step S9 is "Yes"), it stops the motor brake (step S4), judging that the electric motor 3 has a tendency to overheat.
