PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable optional slave devices of a plurality of slave devices connected to a host device through an input and output bus such as PCI bus to directly communicate with each other without through the host device. SOLUTION: This data processing system in which each slave device has a memory including, for each of other devices, areas for writing data by other devices connected to the own device comprises a means for the first slave device (color image processing board) to write a command to a first area exclusively used for the first slave device provided in the memory of the second slave device (printer controller), a means for the first slave device to report the writing completion of command to the second slave device; a means for the second slave device to read, upon receipt of the report of writing completion of command from the first slave device, the command from the first area; and a means for the second slave device to execute processing corresponding to the command read from the first area.
