The invention relates to an illumination unit, which can be attached to areas displaying information or advertising. Current information or advertising areas, for example, information panels or town or street maps, which are located at the side of the road at the entrance to the location, are extremely difficult to read at night. If illumination is provided, there must be in addition an electrical connection, which requires a significant amount of resources to lay, if the information or advertising area is in a remote location. According to the invention, areas of this type are provided with illumination, (preferably LEDs), which are supplied by means of solar cells (preferably thin-film solar cells). Said solar cells are mounted in a fixed manner on the object to be illuminated. In addition, the areas are also equipped with batteries, (preferably gel batteries), which store the energy that is generated by the solar cells. A photo-electric switch guarantees an operation of the illumination that is adapted to requirements. |
