PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in dispersibility, coating film smoothness, electromagnetic conversion characteristic and traveling durability. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium comprises at least one magnetic layer in which ferromagnetic fine powder is dispersed in a binder on a non-magnetic support. The magnetic recording medium is characterized in that the binder contains polyurethane resin acquired from an aliphatic isocyanate compound having a branched side chain, and the ferromagnetic fine powder is a needlelike ferromagnetic material whose major axis length is 20-50 nm, or a tabular magnetic substance whose plate diameter is 10-50 nm.
