PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a material to be recorded from being wound successively around a heating rotor 5a and to facilitate jam processing when the material to be recorded stagnates between a nip section N and a paper ejection section in an image heating apparatus which has the heating rotor 5a and a pressurizing rotor 5e forming the nip section with the heating rotor, conveys the material S to be recorded by holding the material between the same and the nip section and heats the image on the material to be recorded. SOLUTION: The image heating apparatus has a pressure releasing means which releases the pressurizing force of the heating rotor and the pressurizing rotor, a flapper 12 which is placed nearer a downstream side in the conveyance direction of the material to be recorded than the nip section and exists normally in the first attitude parted as prescribed from the heating rotor, and is pushed by the jam section of the material to be recorded to take the second attitude in proximity to or to abut as prescribed on the heating rotor in case of the occurrence of the jam nearer on the downstream side in the conveyance direction of the material to be recorded. A locking member 16 which fixes the flapper taking the second attitude, and an unlocking means 18 which releases the fixation of the flapper by the locking member cooperatively with the pressure releasing operation of the pressure releasing means.
