PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which can prevent the structure of an insulating substrate from getting complex and is excellent in reliability and productivity in connection with an external electric circuit, even when mounting a contained electronic component such that its one principal surface is aligned in the Z-direction of an external electric circuit board (direction intersecting perpendicularly with the upper surface of the external electric circuit board). SOLUTION: The electronic device 9 is equipped with; the insulating substrate 1 which has a recess 1a with its upper surface wherein a rectangular solid-shaped electronic component 3 is contained and which has a surface whereon wiring conductors 2 are formed; and a lid member 4 which is attached to the insulating substrate so as to cover the recess 1a. The electronic component 3 has a plurality of electrode pads 5 on the one principal surface, which are electrically connected to the wiring conductors 2, and is contained in the recess 1a in such the state that the one principal surface is opposite to an inner wall of the recess 1a, and the lower surface positioned between the one principal surface and another principal surface is bonded to the bottom surface of the recess 1a.
