PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a batch type rotary kiln capable of uniformly heating a heated object and having superior productivity. SOLUTION: This batch type rotary kiln comprises a retort storing the heated object and rotating on an axis, and a heating furnace for heating an outside portion of the retort, a cover body is detachably mounted on at least one end of the retort, and an oscillating means is mounted for integrally and vertically oscillating the heating furnace and the retort. By contracting a cylinder rod like an arrow Z, the retort can be oscillated like an arrow S, thus the heated object can be stirred not only in the rotating direction but also in the axial direction of the retort.
