PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure and a method for installing a gear shift lever capable of preventing a deviation of the gear shift lever from a console in a relative position. SOLUTION: An instrument panel 10 is installed in a vehicle body. The console panel 15 is installed onto a floor panel 17 with a front end portion of its cover portion 15a being fixed to the instrument panel 10 through a frame members 25. The gear shift lever 22 is installed onto the floor panel 17 with front end portions of a case body 21 being fixed to the instrument panel 10 through metal members 32 and the frame members 25.
