PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a battery improved in reliability without causing a short circuit or a welding failure to a collector even if a separator is arranged up to an end of a tab part formed by compressing an active material unfilled part of a substrate in the width direction of an electrode plate. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method is used for manufacturing a battery composed by storing, in an armoring can along with an electrolyte, an electrode group formed by arranging a positive electrode plate 11 with an active material unfilled part 11c formed at an end of an electrode substrate 11a formed of foamed nickel and a negative electrode plate 12 so as to face each other through the separator 13. The manufacturing method comprises: an electrode group formation process for arranging the separator between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate and thereafter forming the electrode group by spirally rolling them; a tab part formation process for forming the tab part 11d by compressing the active material unfilled part in the form of the spirally rolled electrode group; and an electrode body formation process for forming an electrode body by welding a positive electrode collector to the tab part.
