PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and improved filtering apparatus with which separation of residue on a filter medium surface is improved, formation of filter cake can be avoided as far as possible, and formation of the filter cake can be greatly reduced, and a filtering method. SOLUTION: This filter apparatus 1 is provided with a tank 2, at least one disk-like filter medium 6 arranged in the tank 2, and at least one each suspension feed pipe 3, suspension discharge pipe 4, and filtrate discharge pipe 5 provided to the tank 2, respectively. The filter medium 6 is rotatable, and the suspension present in the tank 2 is rotatable on the filter medium 6 by the rotation of the filter medium 6. In this filter apparatus, the suspension feed pipe 3 additionally feeds suspension into the tank 2 in the direction opposing to the flowing direction of the suspension rotating in the tank 2, to hinder the rotation of the suspension caused by the rotation of the filter medium, and the filtering method is also provided.
