There is provided an image processing system capable of improving recognition accuracy of a lane mark. In the image processing system, a lane mark candidate is recognized by a first processing unit (110) according to luminance of each pixel in the road image. Moreover, a first index indicating continuity of the lane mark candidate edge, a second index indicating the conformance between the lane mark candidate width and the lane mark standard width, and a third index indicating uniformity of the luminance of pixels contained in the lane mark are evaluated. According to the first, the second, and the third index, the second processing unit (120) recognizes the lane mark candidate having the highest possibility to be a true lane mark as a lane mark.
