a-OLEFIN/CYCLOOLEFIN/POLYENE COPOLYMER AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

An a-olefin/cycloolefin/polyene copolymer characterized by comprising structural units (A) derived from one or more a-olefin monomers including ethylene, structural units (B) derived from a cycloolefin monomer, and structural units (C) derived from a polyene monomer and by being noncrystalline or having a quantity of heat of crystal fusion less than 90 kJ/kg. The a-olefin/cycloolefin/polyene copolymer is a cycloolefin copolymer having double bonds incorporated in side chains thereof. Also provided is a process for efficiently producing the copolymer. The a-olefin/cycloolefin/polyene copolymer is utilizable in crosslinking reaction and is expected to have improved strength and heat resistance. Functional groups can be introduced into the copolymer through modification. The copolymer is hence utilizable as a raw material for producing a polyolefin having polar groups.
