PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device which is easy to operate and permits a stable position detection despite secular deterioration. SOLUTION: The printing device comprises moving means (carriage motor 26, a paper feed motor 51) to move an optical sensor onto a marker for detecting a position provided on a disk tray when the disk tray 60 holding an optical recording medium 80 is inserted, a measuring means (CPU 100) to measure a signal value output from the optical sensor, a computation means (CPU 100) to compute a judgment threshold value on the basis of the signal value measured, scanning means (carriage motor 26, paper feed motor 51) to scan the marker, a detection means (CPU 100) to distinguish a signal output from the optical sensor on the basis of the judgment threshold value and to detect the position of the marker, and a specifying means (CPU 100) to specify a printing start position in accordance with the result of specification.
