PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel microorganism having excellent temperature stability and strong melanogenesis suppressing activity, a melanogenesis suppressing agent derived from the microorganism, and cosmetics. SOLUTION: Disclosed are a microorganism belonging to the genus Ruegeria [e.g. Ruegeria NB6450 (FERM P-19168)] and featured by having the melanogenesis suppressing activity, a melanogenesis suppressing agent containing the microbial cell or culture supernatant thereof as an active component, and cosmetics containing the melanogenesis suppressing agent.
