PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main relay failure diagnosing method capable of reasonably achieving a failure diagnosis of a main relay including a control (operation) system, and an electronic control device performing the failure diagnosis of the main relay. SOLUTION: The electronic control device 100 controls the main relay 202 to an OFF state and stops power supply to a microcomputer 101, based on an electric power supply stop command SH issued from the microcomputer 101. In this electronic control device 100, in controlling the main relay 202 to the OFF state, the microcomputer 101 writes main relay OFF information which varies at normal start by operation of an ignition switch 201 and at start by a soak timer 104 into each of a normal RAM 101b which becomes active along with power supply to the electronic control device 100 and a backup RAM 101c in which backup power supply is performed by an on-vehicle battery 203.
