This invention provides a positive electrode material for a lithium ion battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte that can realize high-output discharge and can suppress cracking of secondary particles in high-temperature cycle durability. The positive electrode material is characterized in that the material comprises secondary particles comprising primary particles of a lithium nickel composite oxide containing primary particles having a different aspect ratio and, in at least a part of the primary particles having a different aspect ratio, the longitudinal direction (loner side direction) is oriented toward the center of the secondary particles.
