Hydraulic shoe for paper mill calender has side-seals aligned with direction of web movement

A paper mill has a calender with an upper drum separated from the flexible mantle of the lower drum hydraulic shoe (2) with a flexible mantle (4) by the fibrous web (1) feed. Each end of the hydraulic press shoe has a raised seal (3) aligned with the direction of web feed. The elastic seal is anchored in a groove located within the shoe (2) and rests on springs or is supported by hydraulic action. The seal upper profile matches that of the gap and has a lower wear coefficient than that of the flexible mantle (4).
