A circuit structure operates electric lamps (5), e.g. dielectric barrier gas discharge lamps, with a front-end excess current cutout stage (4) designed as a voltage-increase converter (1), especially a high-setting regulator, and then with a subsequent stage (2), e.g. a blocking oscillator-type converter as a pulsed stage. - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a lighting system with an electric lamp designed as an electric barrier gas discharge lamp linked to a circuit structure.
