<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of calculating the film thickness of a photoreceptor with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor drum 2 that rotates, a charging roller 3 provided in contact with or in close proximity of the photoreceptor drum 2 to charge the photoreceptor drum 2, a charge amount detecting portion 11 that time accumulates DC current flowing from the charging roller 3 to the photoreceptor drum 2 during charging of the photoreceptor drum 2 until a voltage on a surface of the photoreceptor drum 2 substantially corresponds to the voltage applied by the charging roller 3 to obtain a charge amount, and a controller 12 that calculates a film thickness of the photoreceptor drum 2 based on the charge amount. The film thickness is calculated after the charge amount until the surface potential of the photoreceptor is saturated is obtained. Therefore, the film thickness of the photoreceptor can be calculated with high accuracy without being affected by contamination of the resistor of the charging roller 3 and variations due to environment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
