PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a film which is suitably used for a liquid crystal display device, which is optically uniform and has extremely little picture distortion. SOLUTION: The film is formed with melt extrusion of an amorphous thermoplastic resin, and this film is uniaxially or biaxially stretched so as to obtain a film of which the thickness is 10-200μm, the Ry of variation of the thickness is 5μm or less and the Ra is 1μm or less, further the retardation in a frontal direction is 6 nm or less, the unevenness of in-plane retardation in the thickness direction is 2 nm or less, and the birefringence is essentially zero.
