PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyvinyl alcohol-based film for producing polarizing films which correspond to large areas and high minuteness and have the excellent in-plane uniformity of polarizing performances (polarizing degree, simple transmittance), and to provide its polarizing film and polarizing plate. SOLUTION: This polyvinyl alcohol-based film is characterized in that Poisson's ratio is 0.5 to 0.7, when stretched to 5% in the winding direction, and the polarizing film and the polarizing plate each produced from the film.
