PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an inorganic powder having a sulfonic acid salt group capable of obtaining it efficiently without coagulation among particles and coloring. SOLUTION: The inorganic powder having the sulfonic acid salt group on its surface can be obtained efficiently by (A) treating the surface of the inorganic powder with a cyclic siloxane compound represented by formula (1) (where R<SP>1</SP>is a monovalent 1-10C hydrocarbon group, R<SP>2</SP>is a bivalent 3-10C hydrocarbon group, X is a halogen atom and n is an integer of 3 to 6), and (B) contacting the surface treated inorganic powder with a sulfite salt.
