PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost in a laser printer by using an oscillating mirror. SOLUTION: A scanning system 400 can scan a photoconductive surface with an image beam across the surface. The scanning system includes the oscillating mirror 406 and can be operated to generate the image beam and cause the oscillating mirror to reflect the image beam to bidirectionally scan the photoconductive surface across the surface with the image beam for making the surface region discharge.
