The invention relates to a charge accumulator, for example a battery, with several single cells or modules, which can also be designated as battery pack, comprising a battery monitoring unit and a battery control unit which are connected to each other via an interface. Both the temperature of the individual battery cells or modules and the applied voltage are measured. The measured values are then evaluated in the battery monitoring unit. The battery control unit carries out an appropriate charging procedure in accordance with the determined battery state. Two different charging procedures are essentially be carried out. The battery control unit can also be embodied as a charging device on its own.
