PHOTO-LUMINESCENCE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photo-luminescence liquid crystal display in which degradation of liquid crystals caused by phosphor excitation light is suppressed, and which has further higher efficiency and a lengthened life.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is equipped with: electrodes that are disposed each inside a front and a rear substrate and create an electric field in liquid crystals (LCs); a nano-dot (ND) PL layer that is disposed on the bottom surface of the front substrate and emits a light when irradiated with a ultraviolet (UV) light, and a UV backlight unit that is located behind the rear substrate and supplying a UV light to the ND PL layer. The UV backlight unit is excited by a blue UV light having a wavelength range of 360 to 460 nm to emit a light. The PD LCD having the above-mentioned structure suppresses absorption of a UV light by LC and degradation of the LC while providing a high light efficiency.
