PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a motor for an electric power steering device which reduces the running-in operation man-hours of a motor, also reduces the production cost and will not provide uncomfortable feelings with a driver in, for instance, a normal "continuous stationary steering" driving state. SOLUTION: In the motor for an electric power steering device equipped with a shaft, an armature fixed to the shaft, a commutator fixed to the end part of the shaft, and a carbon brush 9 with its tip end part abutted on the outer peripheral surface of the commutator, the ratio of the area S, wherein the carbon brush 9 abuts against the commutator, with respect to the projecting area of the carbon brush 9 in the radial direction is within 4 to 8%, in a range having a rated current flowing into the carbon brush 9 of 25A to 80A and in a range having the the content of copper in the carbon brush 9 of 35% to 55%.
