PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner excellent in charging and fixing characteristics. SOLUTION: The toner contains at least a binder resin and a colorant, wherein the colorant is a colorant in which pigment particles having an anionic group on the surface are coated with a polymer having a repeating structural unit derived from a cationic polymerizable surfactant having a cationic group, a hydrophobic group and a polymerizable group. The colorant is prepared by coating the pigment particles with the polymer by polymerizing the cationic polymerizable surfactant in an aqueous dispersion of the pigment particles.
