PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent the occurrence of an image defect due to friction of an unfixed toner image during sheet transport. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a transfer section which transfers the toner image to the sheet; a fixing section which is disposed above the transfer section and fixes the toner image transferred to the sheet; and a heat insulation member which is disposed between the fixing section and the transfer section and is placed on the unfixed toner transfer section side of a sheet transport path, wherein the heat insulation member is characterized in that it forms the portion nearest to the sheet with respect to the transport path within a sheet size and outside the unfixed toner transfer region of the sheet, and consequently the sheet is transported to the fixing section while the sheet is held at the sheet end which is outside the unfixed toner transfer region.
