A paper mill has a calender drum with a flexible mantle (4) separated from a lower drum (5) with concave hydraulic press shoe (2) by a fiber web (1) feed. The outer ends of the press shoe incorporate supplementary lubrication pockets (3). The shoe lubrication pockets are elongated in the direction of drum rotation. The lubricant pressure is independently regulated.
