A hand held toy includes a handle assembly, a blade seat rotatably connected to the handle assembly, a light source assembly connected to the seat so as to rotate when the seat rotates, the light source assembly comprising a plurality of light sources, a plurality of blades mounted on the blade seat so as to surround the light source assembly, a motor located within the handle assembly to rotate the blade seat and the light source assembly, a battery power source located within the handle assembly and connected to the motor, for supplying power to the motor, and a switch located on the handle assembly to selectively turn on and off the motor. The plurality of blades pivots outwardly when the motor is turned on toward an opened position, and then pivots inwardly toward a closed position when the motor is turned off. When the motor is turned on, the light source assembly rotates and the plurality of light sources is illuminated, so that a pattern of light is formed as the light source assembly rotates.
