PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a recorder such as a line printer for printing at a high speed with a recording head of broad width makes ink drying insufficiently at a paper-delivery section or just after delivering a paper due to the remarkable unevenness of the absorbency and fixability of a paper depending on environmental conditions and then tends to generate a tinting on printed portion. SOLUTION: The printed portion is irradiated with a ultrasonic wave from the position close to the paper just after printing by the recording head. From the receiving amount of the ultrasonic wave which has permeated the image portion, the ink absorption characteristic of the applied paper is measured.
