The lifting cable (3) of the rotary clothes dryer is mechanically coupled to the wind-on device (27) of the electrical drive device (5). The drive device further comprises a transmission formed in a direction of rotation self-locking, a blocking device containing controllable magnet device, a battery and/or a rechargeable battery and/or an electric connection, a limit switching off device readjustable by a turning mechanism, a solar collector and/or a windmill, and a fixing element containing a sheath for fixing the drive device to the clothes dryer. The switching off device switches as a function of the capacity of the engine and/or the transmission torque. In the drive device, a resting prevention device for deactivating resting mechanics of the clothes dryer and a spring device for causing a springs mechanical coupling of the lifting cable are used. The spring device is a component of the motor and/or the transmission and/or the wind-on device and/or the drive lifting cable (23). The drive device is operated by a radio-remote control and/or an optically operating remote control. The fixing element exhibits a thorn insertable into the mast of the dryer, and the drive device is fastenable at the mast-heel and the slide joint (13) of the dryer. An independent claim is included for a rotary clothes dryer.
