POLARIZATION FILTER AND POLARIZATION IRRADIATION UNIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization filter simply assembled and reassembled even when the polarization filter is made to desirably correspond to a substrate which is lightweight and has a large area and an optional shape.

SOLUTION: The polarization filter holds a plurality of flat plates on the surfaces of which dielectric layers are provided and which are provided with end surfaces worked obliquely to the surfaces on which the dielectric layers are provided in the state that the end surfaces are brought in close contact with each other so that the dielectric layers are formed in a continuous layer and the cross sectional surfaces of the continuous layer is formed in a zigzag shape folded at a fixed angle. An irradiation apparatus with polarized light has the polarization filter and a light source. An alignment apparatus for an optical alignment film and the optical alignment film obtained thereby are also provided.
