PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent software from being used illegally, without executing complicated management of managing a license code or a management number of equipment. SOLUTION: This software authentication device provided with a code reading means 11 for reading out a key code from a hardware key 10 stored with the prescribed key code, a determination means 12 for determining the authenticity of the read-out code, and the first authentication means 13 for activating the software installed in the equipment when the key code is genuine, is provided with a hardware invalidating means 17 for erasing or changing the key code stored in the hardware key 10, when the key code is determined to be genuine by the determination means 12.
