PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preferably perform processing, such as compression, accumulation, reproduction, and the like, with regard to an omnidirectional image of a cylindrical shape or spherical shape. SOLUTION: An image mapped onto a three-dimensional coordinate system, such as a spherical surface or a cylindrical surface, is mapped onto a two-dimensional image so that redundancy may stay low while a quantity of information on the omnidirectional image is maintained as equally as possible with fewer errors. It is preferable that conversion into the two-dimensional image by taking performance on the side of omnidirectional video reproduction into consideration. Mapping information describing a corelation between the three-dimensional coordinate system of the original omnidirectional image and the mapped two-dimensional image coordinate system is generated to use when composing the omnidirectional video from an arbitrary viewpoint direction.
