PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval device and a retrieval method, capable of efficiently retrieving a spelling the pronouncing of which cannot be precisely heard. SOLUTION: The retrieval device 1 adapted to retrieve a spelling based on a phonemic symbol string corresponding to phoneme information in pronouncing comprises a phoneme correction part 13, a spelling retrieval part 14, a storage part 16 storing a spelling table, and a storage part 17 storing a phoneme correction rule table. The spelling table stores spellings in conformation to meanings thereof, and the phoneme correction rule table stores correspondence information of a condition for correcting a phoneme in the phonemic symbol string with a content to be corrected. The phoneme correction part 13 corrects an input phonemic symbol string based on the phoneme correction rule table, thereby generating a corrected phonemic symbol string.
